The BMW R 25 was a single-cylinder motorcycle from BMW and was built in the early 1950s as a facelift of its predecessor R 24 with 12 hp, whose predecessor had been again built R 23 from 1938 to 1940 with 10 hp at 5400 / min. With about 12 hp, the BMW R 25 was pretty weak motorized, but delivered with an upright cylinder and the retention of the longitudinally mounted engine together with shaft drive (the same drive concept as the two cylinders), the pattern for a number of small BMW motorcycles 250 cubic centimeters, which were built until 1965 in several facelifted editions.
The double-tube frame is made of welded steel pipe with mounted right in direction of travel ball heads for the sidecar operation. The LS 200 of Steib sidecar was a reasonable, however requires a special gear ratio of Kardanantriebes. The fenders and the tank are made of sheet steel. The front fender has the curved mud flaps with incorporated into the steel, which was maintained even when the successor model R 25/2. The rims are made of sheet steel with half hub brakes. The engine block is how the gearbox and the rear-cast aluminum. The muffler is attached directly to the frame with metal tabs.
